Hi all,

I recently installed the Windows 7 RC on my HP laptop.
To make story short, I connect the internet through a Thomson Modem connected to a TP-LInk Wireless router, I can connect the router and can see my local network.

I have the following problems:
1. I can't connect my router from the laptop (typing 192.168.1.1 in any browser yields nothing at all).
2. I can excess internet (pinging Google for instance), but I can't reach any site using any of my installed browsers (IE, Firefox, or Chrome).

I tried reinstalling chrome, because this all seems to be browers problems, but that didn't help either.

Thanks,
Yishke:)

+1, it could also be that the router need resetting. This has helped many times when connection to hardware is fine but internet seems iffy :p

I done almost all the instructions in your guide before I posted the question, but didn't tried the safe-mode.
I can browse the net in safe-mode, so I assume that something is blocking me in the regular mode, but I don't know what (I turned off both the fire-wall and AVG and it didn't help).

Any way, now I have a lead, so thank you very much,
Yishke:)

Have you done a soft reset of the router?

By soft reset I mean take out the power adapter. wait ten seconds and put it back in. Then the thing will reboot and you'll have to wait a few minutes.

Note:
Never do hard reset. (little pin on the back with pencil) because that will delete all your settings, including provider login and pw.

I note this distinction, because I see a lot of people suggesting resetting the router, but that can easily be missunderstood.

greetz.

No problem. welcome to sevenforums

I was refering to your system specifications. you could just tell us, or you could put them in your user control panale (user CP). It just makes diagnosing your hware and OS easier.

And while you at it, could you go to command prompt and do a IPCONFIG/ALL and post it here? :D

PS, and while you do that, you might just for the fun of it do IPCONFIG/flushdns.

And see if you browser works now?

Hi,

I can reach the internet in safe-mode, so my problem is with one of the protection layers, but I have no clue as to which (I turned off the fire-wall and my AVG anti-virus, but it didn't helped).

and now for some specs:

Could you do command prompt: IPCONFIG/flushdns

try if you can browse now.

Another thing you could try is connect network cable to your laptop and see if that makes a difference?

I also notice your DNS server IP is very different from the gateway's IP.

Is that on purpose?

Is the DNS also on autoconfigure?

If not try that.

I'll keep an eye open for your post.

Hi squonksc,

I'm writing this post from my laptop in safe-mode, all the details I attached are the same when I'm in safe-mode and in the regular mode, but for a strange resaon I still can't access the internet while I'm out of safe-mode.

I didn't enter the dns servers, so I don't know what to tell you about it, I suppose it came from my ISP.

Did you do the IPCONFIG/flushdns already?

Have you tried with a cable instead of wireless.

Problem solving is mostly ruling out options, and the rest is creativity. :D

you said you can connect to internet in safe mode with n/w. Right?
That means its your firewall that's causing the issue. uninstall the AV and/or firewall program and then browse the internet in normal mode. It will work. Then reinstall the AV/firewall.

Hi,

I tried all that, the thing is:
I can connect the interent using the wireless connection when I turn on the os in safe-mode, as I understand this indicates that the problem is either in my fire-wall, or in my anti-virus, I tried removing both and it didn't helped.

Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Yishke:)

Sorry..

I actually replied you and not dinesh.
I tried what you (squonksc) suggested.
I also tried what dinesh offered (without the uninstall, I just turned everything off)

Yishke:)
BTW, I use the regular windows firewall.

So wired won't work either?

Try this IPCONFIG /release, wait until it's done.

Then type IPCONFIG/renew

If still not work.
PM me your MSN name, that communicates a lot easier.

And do what Dinesh offered you.

Shutting of the firewall and antivirus might not be enough.

If the software is causing conflict, you need to de-install it.

Please do that.

Again, if you are able to browse websites in safe mode with n/w, its 101% your AV/firewall or browser conflicting. Besides, you can also disable all startup items in msconfig and restart your computer to see if any good happens.
