Solved Can I Clean Install 7 On An HP Pavilion Laptop That Has 10?

The Vendor ID (for the Network Controller) is 8086 (that's Intel), and the Device ID is 3165.

Go to www.pcidatabase.com and do a Device search on 3165. It will return some listings. At least one of those listings will have both 8086 as the Vendor ID and 3165 as the Device ID. If you will click on the hyperlink on each of the listings which have a match on both numbers, you will be directed to where you can get the driver for this device.

Thank you. The site seems to currently be down--and I verified it wasn't just some weirdness on my end, by checking a couple sites that tell that sort of thing--so I'll definitely do that whenever it's back up.

Can you give us the brand and model of the laptop and what version of Win 7 you've installed?

For the network controller try this one
Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 7*

For the ACPI Solved: Cant find appropriate drivers for ACPI\SMB0001\31 ... - HP Support Forum - 5214817

Success! Thank you, the network controller is installed and doing fine. The wifi works.

Oddly, however, when it comes to the driver for the ACPI you've linked to--it's apparently Synaptics, and I had just installed that very Synaptics driver yesterday. The touchpad itself has been fine, too...

Edit: I installed it anyway, and it's the same in Device Manager. Should I just uninstall Synaptics, and reinstall that again?

Any reason you didn't use Snappy Driver installer ?

Snappy Driver Installer download | SourceForge.net

It's primarily because I know absolutely nothing about things of that ilk, and have never used driver installer sites/programs before. I wanted to install the drivers myself, one at a time, to learn if there are any issues. I don't know if it could identify the unknown drivers or not. I am not experienced in that regard. In the case of the Synaptics one that was already installed by me, but possibly not correctly if the Device Manager is accurate right now, would it have even pointed it out? I honestly don't know.

It’s an HP Pavilion 17-y006cy. The OS is Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

It tells what is installed and what is available, example:

I fixed the issue with the Synaptics driver saying it was an unknown device in the Hardware ID. I ended up doing an uninstall of it, and then reinstalled it immediately afterwards. For whatever reason, that worked. It no longer has that unknown device issue in the Device Manager.

A Google search told me the final thing could be corrected with a hot fix from Microsoft, so I requested KB2920188, and just installed it. The last unknown one is now corrected, so thank you everyone for helping!
