Can I control when Windows Update Downloads?

I mean other than by manually controlling it. I live in the boonies, am stuck with satellite and have a limited daily bandwidth threshold. I can download unlimited between 1AM and 6AM. I would like to get Windows Update to do it's downloading during those timeframes. However, when i select the option for the install to occur at 3AM it does not seem to download at that time -- rather it downloads whenever (eating up my daily allotment) but installs at that time.

Are there other workarounds I'm not aware of, other than setting my alarm for 3AM and manually downloading it?

The best way in settings choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"
