Solved Can I delete entire folder of a previous user?

I had a standard user account with some weird name, I deleted that account totally and I don't use that anymore. I took backups of my important documents before deletion and I think I don't have any use with that user account folder in Computer > C: > Windows > Users > "weird name" . It's about some 1.3 GB and I wish to delete that. Does that have any adverse affects ?

Yes, you can safely delete the user profile folder since you deleted the account in Control Panel -> "User Accounts".

yes I have it installed, I use it as default

The feature mentioned in that post that I linked to might be the reason why you have/had a standard user account with a strange name.

Do you have Microsoft Security Essentials installed at the same time that you have ESET installed?

I read that post about TCP Flooding, but I'm afraid I never saw that phantom account :shock:

The name of the account will not be the same as the one shown in the image. The name should be random or a name that you pick (which does not always work and you still get a random name).

Oh sorry I made that standard user account myself long ago with a weird name I deleted it later.

Yeah I have MSE installed along with ESET because I found neither of those are responding in real time for a real threat. Only one of those responds. I was paranoid about my security and I'm using both. My licence's gonna expire by 1st April and I'm planning to stop using that after removing some personal data from my system.

I understand about the user account now. I just saw that and it reminded me of about a dozen threads that we had when ESET first released that feature. Most people will say not to have two antivirus apps installed at the same time - it can prevent either from working well. But I've found a few that get along together back in my XP days. I liked having one from each side of the globe.

I'm not against MSE. I still install it for those that I help. But, if you want to stick with MSE, see if you can stay awake thru this long rant of mine. It links to several other posts :-(

If you are looking for something free... I'm looking into Panda Cloud Antivirus, but it is a young product. See this post. It turns out that Panda Cloud AV was lowering the UAC to the default level when it found something - even a cookie. One the plus side, PCA blocks things like the Conduit toolbar. MSE let's you install that :-(
