Can I disable the deleting files?

Basically, I have a HD that has files I want to move, but not delete (accidentally or intentionally). Can I remove the delete feature but keep the ability to move files?

Hello Chris,

In that situation, it may be best to copy the files to where you want to move them to first. Afterwards, you could delete them from the old location once you are sure that they have all copied over ok. This way you don't have to worry about losing the files if you were to "move" them instead and it was interrupted.

If you like, the tutorial below can add "Copy to Folder" and "Move to Folder" to the context menu to make doing this action easier on demand.

Move and Copy would perform the exact same operation if you somehow stopped the move command from deleting the file after it finished copying it.

If I understand your question correctly, you should use the copy command instead of the move command to accomplish what you want.

As Brink pointed out, using copy first gives you a little more security so you can ensure the file was copied to the target correctly before you manually delete the file which accomplishes the same as thing as the move command.
