Can i get files from a failed HDD?

yeah.i've used this hdd for about 4 years..i knew it's gonna fail..now my pc doesnt see it..is there any chance that i can get files from it?

Depends. If the data is "live and death" and you take it to a professional service you probably can recover some data.

If there isnt then your odds drop.

Do you see the drive when you open Disk Management?

If not, check to see if it shows up in the BIOS.

Well, hopefully you've already got all of the data on there copied to other media. If you have, go ahead and run any HD tests that are provided by your BIOS.

Life or death, if the data so severely critical that you cannot live without it.
Send to recovery experts is very good, but you need a seriously insane amount of money.

If you check all the connections for the drive, power and data at the drive end and the motherboard end (for data) and it still won't spin up.

You can check the drives power up an connection status by adding to another working PC, if it can be read, you can recover your data.

no i havent copied the data..well.it is not important..but would be great if get the files back..

Not necessary to do that immediately.

OP can try to access the hard drive by running a linux distro Live CD.

Many recommend UBUNTU, but I feel Lucid Puppy (which is also ubuntu-based but light) is more easier. (atleast I felt so, with almost nil Linux exposure.With Ubuntu the learning curve may be a little bit steeper, though tutorials on the how-to are available on the net.)
