It depends on how your Windows 7 was originally installed?
If using a retail installation disc, then you could just do a clean install of Windows 7 to restore it.
If Windows 7 came preinstalled on your computer, then you should create a set of factory recovery discs before upgrading to Windows 8 to have to be able to do a factory restore of Windows 7 if needed in the future. If you like, please post back with what brand and model your computer is, and I'll be happy to find the instructions for how to create a set of recovery discs for your model.

i`m not real pc savey lol. when i first got my pc it ask`ed me if i wanted to make two drives c and d or just a c drive, i chose to make 2 drives c and d. so does that make my d drive a separate physical HDD.
That was probably on the same HD. If you haven't used D then you can install Win8 there.
Do you have a second HD installed in the PC? Do you have an external HD? Those would be the best places to save a backup image.
If not you can wait until you get one, or we can help you create a third partition for temporary image storage on the same HD although that is not recommended since it would be lost if the HD failed and therefore defeats the purpose of a backup.
So we have a better idea what you have please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt drive map with listings, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu. Attach using paper clip in reply box.
