How exactly did you come in possession of win7 enterprise version? Individuals have retail, upgrade and oem versions while corporates have enterprise licenses (among others). If this is a company license, only the network admin is authorized to install and activate.

So your question is somewhat incongruous.

I have Enterprise version, and am at a university. You think you're the network admin? Is that your company position? That has nothing to do with being admin of your pc.

1) Enterprise version doesnt come pre-installed on notebooks.

2) The laptop sticker serial applies only to OEM computers on which OEM win7 (not Enterprise version, btw) is preinstalled and preactivated.

3) I'm referring to a network admin as in corporates or universities who are responsible for installation and activation of enterprise licenses, either MAK or KMS.

I see, so the serial I have isn't for enterprise.......... Could it be vista?
But if I was the Network Admin how would I add it to other PCs? Or would I need to purchase another serial or something?

I've googled this alot... but
Is there a way to upgrade or downgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate?

All versions of Windows 7 require product activation.

Windows 7 Enterprise can only be activated with a Volume License MAK or KMS key if it is not activated against a local KMS server. Enterprise requires a VL KMS/MAK out of the box or activation against a local KMS server. It can be rearmed up to 3 times.

Windows 7 Ultimate edition activates conventionally via the internet to Microsoft activation servers???????

Rearmed?

Look on the COA sticker you say is on the laptop. The OS and version listed there is the one you are legally licensed for.

Find an installer for that OS version and reinstall using the Product Key on that sticker. It will require a robocall to MS to sort the machine key from the batch key on sticker.

Enterprise has a 90 day trial version which some used to test Win7, however it is not extendable beyond the trial period and the Enterprise installer cannot be used. You need to find a retail Win7 installer for your version, or any installer can have all versions unlocked to install your licensed version using Product Key on sticker.

Hi there
there are only 2 "Quasi" legal methods to install a Windows OS on more than One Computer with ONE product key.

1) If the 2nd computer has IDENTICAL hardware.

2) If you are running the OS as a Virtual Machine with identical "Virtual Hardware".

I don't advocate Piracy but if you are testing / reparing a load of machines IMO there's nothing wrong in using a "bog standard" OS for your test.

You can't run legally more than ONE machine as a production machine but I think whatever the actual law says reparing and testing machines is a different ball game.

Maybe MS should look at a) multiple licenses for a Virtual Machine Image and b) a License for testing and reparing computers so long as the OS is NOT released as a production machine.

Cheers
