Solved Can I install XP after W7 installed?

Hi 4rum,

As I know, If i want to install 2 Win OSs (i.e XP & W7) on the same local HD then I will install XP first then W7 later on. But now i just had 1 laptop G42-415dx which already installed W7 Home Premium 64bit.

Pls let me know is there any way to install one XP OS for this case without re-install W7?

P.S: No use any virtual application for this purpose.

Hello newcomer01, welcome to Seven Forums!


Yes you can do that and it's very easy to do; install XP and as soon as it's booting good, you will have to do 3 separate startup repairs with separate system restarts using this tutorial at the link below.

Windows 7 will auto-configure the dual boot menu and there will be nothing else to be done and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware.

If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.

As BFK posted this is what you need. Use Method Two.
Works well. I installed my XP this way.

You will need to load ALL your XP drivers after XP is installed including SATA and video drivers.
Using Method Two uses Win 7 SATA drivers for the install.

Just follow the tutorial ESPECIALLY Step 7. and all will go well.

THanks but now I have changed my mind that will install more Ubuntu instead of XP as first idea. I'm reading "How to Dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu" Published by DarkNovaGamer as I think it's better I have one Win OS & one Linux OS than I have 2 Win OSs.

I can't remember if you have 2 separate HDDs or a single?


You will have boot issues putting Windows and Linux and a single HDD, unless you really know what you are doing.

Oh! I'm lucky man as it's successfully since I tried to install Ubuntu as I said previous post and now I go here to post my thanks to all you but I see your post 2 days ago. Appreciated for your advice BFK.

All I did is follow step by step in that url without any issues, now I'm studying a new OS -Ubuntu and its free applications... So happy!

P.S I had a singer HD and W7 & U is the same system drive.
