hi all i some help in trying to swap my operating system from my raid0 drives to sdd everytime ive tried it, it hasnt worked was wondering if anyone could shed some light on why
I have two 1tb drives in RAID0(done in bios) which contain everything and i want to put it on my corsair 3 120gb sdd
i've used a spare hard drive and moved all off my user files onto it so the RAID drives only contain 83gb of programs and os
i've done the regedit ahci change to 0 already and am a little confused as to when to change the bios over to ahci,do i physically swap the sata cables for the drives
i am using a asus formula iv which has 6 sata connectors,4 of them in bios can to changed to ide, ahci, raid, sata and the other two are ide or sata so also a little confused which drive to plug where
many thanks in advance hopefully

Hi Fruitbat,

Just a question : your thread title suggests you want to reinstall the OS (and presumably programs) to your SSD, but the details of your thread imply you want to "transfer" everything from the RAID0 directly to the SSD - can you clarify?

To reinstall everything is actually the best option, and I believe many users here will recommend a clean install. Transferring your installation from the RAID0 to the SSD is going to be tricky and not guaranteed to work - in fact I cannot think of a single instance where someone has done this and posted about success here at the forums.

My recommendation is to do a clean install. Here is an excellent tutorial that will guide you:

Post back if you need more help.

Regards,
Golden

I wasn't sure if a clean install would work for some reason I thought Microsoft would have some sort of security on install disks otherwise people would continually install versions on loads of pcs and them lose money
everything is backed up with a system image

Hi,

Nope, the licencing is much smarter than that - the activation takes care of this. If you have a retail version of Windows, then a clean install is absolutely possible.

By the way, it is possible to transfer the existing setup to the SSD, but technically its more challenging, and the RAID complicates the issues:

I still think a clean install is the best option.
