Can I SLI 2 GTX 980ti Cards with 600W Power supply?

I currently own a EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ 6GB graphics card and I am considering buying another one of these cards so that I can link them via SLI. I have researched my motherboard and it can support this feature, the only concern I have is whether my 600W power supply would be able to support this or whether I would have to buy a more powerful one?

Hi,

Yes that is something else that I've been thinking about as I would like to get into the realms of 4k.

Do you think 2 980Ti's would provide better results or 1 1080?

Get By with Power Supplies. I don't understand such thoughts.

When one builds a costly computer and uses 1 or 2 costly video cards and then want a Just Get By with power supply. This does not compute in my 3 brain cells.

If one would use one of choice programs to calculate what power supply I could Just Get By with (look at my system specs) you will see I could have got by with less power supply.
I chose not to for some good reasons in my opinion.

1. A more powerful power supply than needed will not work very hard even if I worked my system at full demand.

2. It will be cooler even at full demand.

3. Even with age it will still be able to handle anything this system can demand.

4. I will be able to install other things in my system without upgrading the power supply.

5. The cost difference between a Just Get By with power supply and the one I chose was very little compared to the cost of what it has to power.

I chose Corsair and many like AddRAM have chose EVGA; both quality brands with very good reputations. At leads me into #6.

6. Brand names with good reputation is of up most concern.
All 1000W (or what ever watt) power supplies are not created equal.

If I had to buy a new power supply for the same system today it would be at least a 1000W Gold.

Since you already have a Ti, then I`d say get another 980Ti. If you want the latest and have the money, then get the 1080.

If you got a 1080, then you`d have to sell your 980 Ti if you didn`t have another PC to use it on.

From all I`ve read so far, 2 980 Ti`s beat a 1080 easy.

You don`t need a 1080 to do 4k

Some say you can get by with a 850 watt PSU, personally I wouldn`t get anything less then a 1000 watt for 2 980 Ti`s

EVGA - Products - EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 Power Supply - 220-P2-1000-XR

or the 1200 P2

EVGA - Products - EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2 Power Supply - 220-P2-1200-X1

I own both, the 1000 P2 is now my backup, and they both work flawlessly.

This, according to EVGA, is the best 1080 they sell so far.

EVGA - Products - EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0 - 08G-P4-6286-KR

Right now, very few companies have the 1080 in stock yet.

I`m holding out to see if they release a Founders Edition Ti, right now 2 980 Ti`s are more then enough.

You could use EVGA`s power meter to get an idea of what you`d need.

EVGA - Products - Power Supplies

It looks like this right near the top of the PSU page, just click on it.
