I'd upgrade to 4 gb RAM minimum for 64 bit.

Did you run the Win7 Upgrade Advisor on the p.c.?

You can run either/or with same license if you want to try 32 bit first with existing RAM.

Here is the link for the upgrade advisor
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx

I suggest that you give it a try. It will not only tell you if your computer can handle the Windows 7, but also which programs have to be removed or updated. I rceived only one warning when I used it, I had to remove a program before installing, which actually was not really necessary becuase I did a clean install.

As Greg has mentioned you should have at least 4 gb of Ram to make the transition to 64 bit, although the minimum requirement is less.

I hope that you enjoy the new OS, I know I do.
