Solved Can I use key from another Laptop ?

I had Dell Inspiron N5110 Laptop which I sold it with built in genuine key of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and the guy who bought from me he is using Ultimate version of different key. Now, I have Lenovo G510 Laptop and I want to know if I can use key of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 ?

I have recovered the key of Windows 7 from Speccy adn from ProduKey.

The simple answer was no
Lenovo has it's own oem_slp keys you'd have to use it to be legal
Or buy another oem/ system builders of the version of win-7 you want to install and use it's key to activate.

Not exactly sure why you'd want to down grade to home premium from ultimate but that's another issue all together ;)

But it goes back to what I stated. An OEM version is ONLY legally valid for the original PC it was installed on, and this whether its embedded in the BIOS or not. And it doesn't matter if its an OEM version that was supplied with a new PC or an OEM version you buy and install on a PC.

I have the key thatswhy I was thinking to use it. Otherwise Ultimate version is good.

The speccy key is useless. It is a generic key.

The key you got is a mass factory key used to activate windows, as stated it is useless for you, and you can not use the key off the COA on the laptop, regardless if the buyer uses the key or not, that is his or her key for future use. Why aren`t you using the OS that came with the Lenovo ? If you want a different OS you will have to buy it.

So, if you have an Ultimate key, install Ultimate on the Lenovo, what`s the problem ?

Why would you want to install Home Premium if you have an Ultimate key :confused:
