Can i use windows seven with aero

hi,
can i use windows 7 with aero.. i just checked the system requirements in the windows 7 website.. and compared it with my machine's settings... i got the following report about my system.. i dont understand this stuff..

please.....can you tell me whether i can use windows 7 with aero experience.........

Hello luckydeveloper,

Welcome to the Seven Forums. If you go to 'my sys. specs' and click on update, you could fill in what you have for hardware and OS. This will keep you from having to add this info. to each post. You can get much of the info. from system information.

I think your graphics won't handle Aero. Minimum 128MB I think.

"Intel Extreme Graphics 2" would point to a Intel 865 chipset, released sometime 2003. (Pentium 4 or Celeron processor)
Since Intel doesn't even supply Aero-compatible drivers for newer chipset graphics, (because they don't fulfill the requirements) I don't think you will be able to run Aero.

Concerning VRAM: Even though it states 128MB as min, I am having no problems running AERO with an ATI x700 64MB.
Even though it's WEI rating for Aero is 2.1^^

Thanks for the info, killercat. I know they use shared ram, but didn't know if it would be adequate as (s)he says maxes at 96.

Just to make sure you got me right, mine uses 64MB of dedicated VRAM; no shared memory.
Oh, had I just put in the extra 100€ for the 256MB model when I purchased it...but well, it works *g*

As you pointed out in an earlier post killercat, it will be dependant on drivers as to wether aero works on that chipset or not. Unfortunately for the OP, it doesn't look promising.

Okay... here's my issue.. I have on board video, SiS chiupset, I believe its called Mirage 2, the specs says SiS Ultra256. I can't find an updated driver that works with Win7 that won't freeze up, either on start up, or when I open Media Center OR Live Messenger. How can I check to see if its WDDM oe XDDM?

Control panel>Device manager>Display Adapter>

If it doesn't have the WDDM beside the adapter name, right-click/properties and check the driver details.

Have you let windows update try to find a driver for it?

I most certainly have, and when I use that driver, it freezes up on the windows start up screen with the animated icon, which stops animation when it freezes.
