Can I use XP Mode from another W7 installation?

I had my PC completely crashed after I got bunch of nasty viruses through Java 1.7 bug couple of days ago.

I added new disk and reinstalled W7.

I still have old disks cleaned after virus attack so the data is reasonably safe.

I had XP Mode VPC in old installation with some pretty complex set of software inside. It will take me a week to reinstate it as I dont have records how did I do it exactly.

Is there a way to copy and reuse old XP Mode files seamlessly withing new W7 installation ?

thank you. i actually googled the first link you gave few hours ago and it helped me to do what i needed.

the only trick was to create symlink as my old XP vhd had E: drive written inside the file and it doesnt exist anymore. So I had to point base disk from E: to C:

i also created symlink from C: appdata to my data disk D: virtual machines folder with all the files

so I didnt really need to copy anything or change xml. only 2 symlinks.

but the article got me thinking in right direction.

Hi! I am having a similar issue. I have a hdd connected to my computer through a USB connection. The file structure comes up like this; E, and F.

I am able to move/copy the files from the "windows virtual machine" to my computer (c:\), but not to launch them there

I am able to launch it through f:\users\usernamne\appdata...

I tried to create a new virtual machine, and then to "use existing disk", but to no avail (A general error message)

Any help would be appreciated

Best shot is to look into symlinks or use junctions

I'd love to walk you through it here but I feel you'll have a better chance at grasping the concept by going to your favorite search engine, there you will find explanations for basic users to full on expert users.
