Can install Java JRE 7u2 but not Java JDK 7u2 on Windows 7

I'm having problems installing Java 7 on 64-bit Windows 7 Pro. I can run the following installers (and uninstall them) repeatedly with no problem:

jdk-6u30-windows-i586.exe
jre-7u2-windows-i586.exe

but when I run the Java JDK 7u2 installer:

jdk-7u2-windows-i586.exe

it silently quits after a few seconds. I've tried various fixes I've seen in the forums, such as making sure I'm the administrator, looking at the Windows installer service, etc. but I haven't gotten anything to work yet.

So, I'm currently stuck using the Java 6u30 JDK. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Did you find a solution?

I've resorted to making up fake information, with SUN, just to download an old version of the JDK - sooo annoying!!

Haven't found a solution yet. What's puzzling is that the JRE 7u2 installs with no problem, but the JDK 7u2 won't install. Wonder if it has anything to do with JavaFX, which is now installed with the JDK.
