Can LPCM audio play to audio card analog outputs?

Hi. I have 2 W7 machines, and only one will play the LPCM 16 bit, 2ch audio from a camcorder. Both machines have realtek HD audio.

The machine that plays it has optical audio out to a receiver. The machine that cannot play the audio has analog outputs to a logitech speaker system.

Should LPCM audio be processed by realtek and sent to analog outputs? Am I doing something wrong?

Both should play. How the sound card routes the audio output doesn't matter. Its just based on the input to the sound card.

Check the Sound Panel/Recording section. Set the one that doesn't play the same as the one that does (if they are different).

Generally, Stereo Mix should be set as the default Recording device. Then whatever input has sound will be heard.

Thanks for helping. Have boiled it down to the difference in camcorder MTS audio compression types between the old and the new camcorder. The old canon XA10 audio (dolby digital 2ch) works on the both W7 machines.

The Canon XA20 uses LPCM 16 bit, 2ch and will not play on the one W7 machine but will on the other. The Realtek codecs are ALC 889 (problem machine) and ALC 892. Any way to resolve this?

I appreciate the suggestion but don't trust that sort of app. Here is Microsoft's advice on all-in-one codec solutions.

Use caution when installing codecs that you find on the Internet, particularly some of the free codec packs that claim to include codecs from a wide variety of companies or organizations. Incompatibilities are known to exist with some of the components in these codec packs that can cause serious playback issues in the Player and other players, lead to system corruption, and make it difficult for Microsoft Support to diagnose and troubleshoot playback issues. For these reasons, we strongly discourage you from installing these codec packs, and recommend that you remove them

I would rather learn which player apps and chipsets support which codecs, and then install a product that lists the LPCM encoding capability. K-Lite lists 3 product levels with no indication of what each constains.

Found solution. One machine had an older version of VLC. Works now!

Great. But, I've used the K-Lite Codec packs and never had a problem. They have been around since the Win XP days.
