I'm having trouble installing Silverlight and Office 10 Pro on my computer. I just reinstalled Win 7 on my HD and had trouble with my drivers updating, aka getting BSOD's. When I try to install these two programs, the installation windows say that the programs as failed to install. Help please.

You say you reinstalled Windows 7, had problems updating drivers, and had BSODs. Have all of these issues been fixed? If yes, you may have remnants of Silverlight left on your computer preventing a clean reinstall. Microsoft has this article on how to remove Silverlight completely.

How to clean a corrupted Silverlight installation and then reinstall Silverlight

If you still can't install Silverlight you may have some damaged or corrupted system files due to an incomplete reinstall of Windows 7. I'd try running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two, this tutorial.) If any problems are noted run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

As far as Office 10 Pro is concerned, I'd suggest you make sure you don't have any remnants left on the computer (just as you did with Silverlight.) See the last post by Sally Tang in this Microsoft Technet thread:

unable to uninstall microsoft office 2010 professional

If you try all of the above and still can't get Silverlight and/or Office 10 Pro to install, I'd strongly recommend you reinstall Windows 7 again.

I had help with the drivers and BSOD's on this forum and the problems seem to be fixed since I am not getting BSOD's any more. I will check for remnants on the computer like you suggest above, when I get home later.

I have a new 120GB SSD that I'm thinking about replacing the original OS HD in the computer with. The original HD is getting close to 5 years old and thinking of moving to the faster SSD and doing some preventive maintenance at the same time. Thoughts?

From what I've read on this forum and others, everyone seems to be very happy with SSDs. But they seem to have their own peculiarities and can't just be dropped into a computer and be expected to work out of the box. If you haven't already seen these tutorials, they might give you an idea of what's involved:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html

There's a whole bunch of folks here who are a lot smarter than me when it comes to SSDs. Ask questions and draw upon their knowledge. :)

Thanks, I was just going to just give a shot and see what happens. I'll check out the links and see what road blocks I might run into.

Looks like I'm going to be reinstalling WIN 7. Awesome. But I'm going to be doing it on the new 120GB SSD and will use the links above for that. I'll still have the original OS HD just in case some thing goes wrong. I'll report back when I can.
