Machine:
ASROCK Z68 Extreme4 MOBO and Windows 7 Ultimate.
I am having issues transferring photos and videos from a iphone X to a PC with Windows 7. I drag a large no of photos and videos and the transfer works for about 20seconds then fails, often with the message "A device attached to the system is not functioning" but sometimes I cant even have the iphone recognised under Windows Explorer.
Attempts to solve thus far:
I did try updating itunes then deleting itunes and reinstalling, however it now says I need Windows 10? so no more itunes unless you have windows 10?
So i tried CopyTrans, i have used this before and it can work with either Itunes installed or not, if not, it directs you to install Ios drivers, i tried manual install but now Copytrans says I need Windows 10 as well.
So I read at Copy trans
" I don’t have iTunes installed
If you don’t have iTunes installed on the PC, the computer will detect the iPhone but incorrectly – as a camera device. The problem is that when you connect the iPhone, you can access only the Camera Roll. You can neither view, nor sync or backup iPhone music, videos, messages or any other iPhone content. "
Sure enough, right now, i can see the iphone under windows explorer and also via View Devices and Printers down under Unspecified.
Under Services I can not see Apple however I think thats because i deleted itunes?
Under Device Manager I can not see Apple under USB (is this due to no Ios drivers?) but can under portable devices (as if its a camera), i tried Update Driver and it says "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date" - "MTP Usb device".
I did see another thread here
https://www.sevenforums.com/general...nt-transfer-desktop-seems-its-hevc-codec.html
I am not sure how the presence of codecs or not has anything to do with successful transfer from iphone to desktop but the OP in that thread seemed to have success with
Free Download HEVC (H.265) Codec for 4K/8K Video Playback
Any suggestions please?
Other questions.
Q2
Also, does one now need to have Win 10 to run Ios drivers? i am happy to just have a solution even with Windows seeing it only as a camera, if I can get videos and photos off
Q3
I have tried different cables and different USB slots, how does one determine exactly what usb slot has the iphone plugged into? (some of my usb slots are damaged and do not work)
