You cant uninstall an OS as such. Youd have to format and install another OS.

If you're booting to a DOS environment, you can use FDISK to delete the partitions and thus all operating systems.

A Linux utility was mentioned in another thread that can do the same thing (DBAN ???).

You can also use FDISK to wipe the Master Boot Record by typing fdisk / mbr.

Once you use FDISK to delete the partition then you have to rebuild a new one to put your next OS onto your hard drive.

I may be a bit off because I haven't had to use it in like forever, but it is one method to get done what you ask.

*late note* You can also boot to to a Windows XP, Windows 2000 install disk and use the setup program to delete and reformat a partition. May be better especially if you hard drive is larger than 512 MB.

Have a look at this from Microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q255867/

FDISK may be considered crude by today's standards but it is very effective.

Hi there
1) download the GPARTED ISO (The Linux utility I also mentioned in another thread) It's OPEN SOURCE - hence FREE.
2) Create Bootable ISO
3) Boot it
4) Delete all partitions on the disk.

Now it's Wiped 100%

You don't need to know any Linux commands to use this - it boots into a Graphical menu which is just like windows. Re-size partitions by noving the mouse. Delete via right mouse click on the partition or the menu. Can also create, format etc etc.

(If you need to do a "Security Wipe" then you need to create a LIVE CD say a Linux Live CD, boot it and then write HEX '00' on every disk sector / cluster).

Normally just deleting the partitions is fine to clear a Disk in prep for re-formatting.

Here's the GPARTED link and a screen dump

GParted -- Live CD/USB/PXE/HD

Cheers
jimbo
