Solved Can the HORRIBLE 'glass' effect be removed?
I cannot stand the so called 'glass' effect in windows 7 which draws diagonal gradients across taskbar and windows. Can't get rid of this through themes, please someone tell me there's a way to make it go away!!!

It should be pointed out that the installation of 3d party themes carries certain risks. E.g your Recycle Bin can get fouled up

It is not a very common problem, but it has happened to me with 2 different skins - in Vista though. I just thought I point it out as a possibility.

And I came to know another possibility. Thanks a lot

It is possible to remove the diagonal gradient on the glass without turning Aero off. This involved some registry editing(not much) so be careful.
If you're not sure what you're doing make a backup of the registy first -- http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/4230-registry-backup-restore.html
Go to the start menu and type in Regedit and open Regedit.exe
Once it's open hit the Control Button + F(CTRL+F) to use the find option and type in ColorizationGlassReflectionIntensity
This will take you to the registy you'll want to edit, can also be navigated to at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
Now you want to modify the registy.
And enter the value 0
After you restart your computer, it should remove the diagonal gradient and have a smooth glass effect.

This DOES work, but be aware, if you mess around with the "Enable Transparency" checkmark, the lines come back! Would be nice to delete it permanently.
