Can the RAM limit be bypassed?

I'd love to put that much memory in our servers at work (192 GB)! But at home, I see no reason for that much memory.

192GB huh. OMG. Who would ever need that much? NASA maybe?
In a personal workstation, maybe if it was doing lots of design work with large models and shapes. However, that's really reserved for servers with large database workloads or virtual machine servers. I personally run with 16GB on all my machines at this point, but mostly because of VM support and not an application need. I do routinely deal with VM servers with 192-256GB of RAM, and 256GB has become more "normal" than even 192GB.

My laptop at work has 4GB, my desktop at work has 8GB (this is where I play with my sandbox VM's). Our VMWare ESXi servers have between 64GB-96GB each.
