Can you check how long a file has been opened?

What I've found so far is how to check if the file has been accessed or modified.

For example:
1.) To check if a file has been accessed is by going here %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows
2.) To check if a file has been modified is by going in the advanced search window, just set the location to search, and set it to search for “Date modified.”

I'm sure there are more ways to check these files... But I haven't found a way to check how long that a file has been opened or accessed for. Because length of the time of the file being used (file opened to file closed) is also important in some cases. It would be greatly appreciated to know how. Let me know thanks

I don't really do a lot of looking for such things but take a look in Even Viewer and see if that is what you are looking for.

No info anywhere I'm aware of for how long a file has been open. I guess you could do the calculation if you could find out when it was opened as long as you can tell if it's still open or not.

By default all Windows does is maintain the last modified date in the file properties. By default, for performance reasons, the last access date stamp is not updated. You can obtain more information with file auditing but this is not enabled by default. You have to be very selective about what is audited or performance will be impacted and the log files will become very large in a short period of time. I have not done such auditing in Windows 7.

To: Ztruker. That sounds very logical but I guess I need to audit the file like what LMiller7 said, which isnt possible for me to do such thing since I don't have the skill to do that.
