Solved Can You Disable Win Update For Non-MS Drivers?

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on three Dell Vostro 420 desktops and a Dell laptop. I know that Microsoft recommends that Windows Update is set to Automatic where the updates are downloaded and installed each night at 3 a.m. I have my machines set for Automatic Updates.

I have discovered that the Automatic Update has replaced a few of the older Dell installed drivers (sound card, etc.) with newer Microsoft drivers that do not have the same functionality as the original Dell drivers which I want to keep. I have downloaded from the Dell site and re-installed some of the Dell drivers.

My question - if I am using Automatic Updates is there a way to tell Automatic Updates that I only want the Microsoft files updated and not the "non" Microsoft files such at the Dell drivers, my nVidia driver, etc. updated as I want to control those driver updates myself?

As far as I know you can't under automatic. That's why I choose to the option to; Download but let me choose to install.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me on my question. I printed the two links and followed the instruction on how to disable auto update of drivers.

I am totally unaware that Windows has the capabilities for many of the answers I get on the Windows Seven Forums. This forum is the best Internet resource I have found for any Windows question.
