I have win 7 32bit running on my current system but I am about to upgrade the mo/bo and cpu I assume that when I switch back on after upgrading the hardware mentioned I will need to re-install win 7 ?

would I beable to use the win7 64bit upgrade disc and install a 64bit o/s as an upgrade?

You should have little or no problem reactivating any retail Win7 version besides OEM.

When you install the new mobo, Win7 may just switch out the drivers for the new hardware and be fine.

Sometimes when a computer will not boot DVD or Flash stick, I move the HD to another machine to install Win7. Have been amazed at how successfully this works, always checking out on all tests and performance.

But you'll need to access the link at Computer>Properties to change activation key in order to refresh the activation on the new Hardware. If it requires a robocall it will be to deactivate the OS on the old hardware config before reactivation. If you speak with a person just tell them you reinstalled.

A 64 bit installer cannot be run from a 32 bit environment at all. It needs to be booted to do a Custom install using Drive options to format the HD before install. Back up all files and gather program installers/disks to reinstall.

The DVD should scan the HD and see the previous OS to allow Upgrade version key.

Hello,

If you would like to install the 64-bit, you will need to do a clean install. You cannot upgrade from 32 to 64.

You probably will not need to reinstall Windows. Reactivate it, maybe,

Hope this helps,
~Jonathan

No, you won't be able to upgrade 32 bit to 64 bit unfortunately, you'll need to do a clean install which would be a better option anyway if you're changing your motherboard & cpu :)

One point that I have not seen made is that when asked for your key do not give it. In fact, you should uncheck the box that asks if you want to activate automatically. Activate after you have tried the system and like it. You have 30 days, but the people here can tell you how to extend it to 120 if necessary. Hope you enjoy your new puter.
