Solved Can you replace CPUs with Windows 7 OEM?

Hello,
I know it sounds stupid but I remember seeing somewhere that you can't upgrade your CPU with Windows 7 OEM. So.. can I replace my CPU ?

There should be no problem upgrading items such as CPUs, memory, HDDs/SDDs, sound and graphics cards. For motherboards though, it is a different story. OEM versions of Windows are tied to the first motherboard they are installed on, so motherboards cannot be changed as it would then be classed as a new computer. The other components mentioned are those which many people change during the life of the system, and Microsoft recognise that.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking I just have in my mind that there is a problem with CPU as well and not just motherboard.. but I guess I imagined :sarc:

Quite often when you change the CPU, you are forced to change the Motherboard also. This is where yoiu would run into a problem.

oh I see, maybe that's were it came from
But if my motherboard is LGA 1155, I can put any LGA 1155 CPU right?
even if the motherboard is quite low-end? for example I7 2600K with H61 chipset

Yup any socket 1155 socket CPU will work, but with the H61 chipset I would not spend the extra to get a K sku. You BIOS will probably give you a message, "New CPU detected Press <some key> to enter setup" during the first start after changing it.
