How do I know which Windows OEM version is given with my Laptop? Win 7 home premium or Premium?
I've installed home premium and found the following while running ShowkeyPlus application -
ShowKeyPlus - Windows Product Key Information
Product Name: Windows 7 Home Premium
Version: 7601.Service Pack 1 (64-bit OS)
Product ID: 00xyz-OEM-xyzabcd-00abc
Installed Key: xxxxx-xyzxy-xxxxx-xxxxx-abcde
OEM Key: Windows 7 OEM marker present in firmware

Laptop Model: Lenovo x230
Genuine OEM Windows 7

Can I freely upgrade to windows 10?

I downloaded windows media creation tool and did direct upgrade to windows 10. My laptop is upgraded to Win 10 but it is not getting activated.

You made a bad choice. Win 7 is a better OS than Win 10.
The key you retrieved with ShowkeyPlus is a generic for Lenovo OEM computers. It can't be used.

Under the laptop or under the battery you will find a COA sticker with a Win 7 key.
Try to use this key on settings - Activation

Best advise I've heard all day, in RED above.

I've tested practically EVERY version of Win-10, and they are all more demanding of resources and harder to set up, to block or remove all of the serious security holes.

Win-7, any version, is just simpler and much safer, so if you have an install of Win-7 that's working properly, KEEP IT!

Just my two cents worth.:geek:

There is Windows 7 "Home Premium", but no Windows 7 "Premium".

You have "Home Premium".

https://www.pcworld.com/article/160287/windows7.html

You may still be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free:

https://www.howtogeek.com/272201/all-the-ways-you-can-still-get-windows-10-for-free/

Sorry for the mistake.

Actually, I wanted to mention Home Premium and Professional. Instead of professional I wrongly mentioned premium.

Thanks for the link from how to geek.com but I couldn’t understand the process/steps properly by reading the article.

I found COA sticker with a Win 7 key and it worked fine. Now my laptop is updated and activated with Windows 10 Pro. Thanks everyone for your support.
