Hey,
So when I boot up my PC it says that I'm not connected to the internet, but there is something odd about it. It says I have two networks - and this is my problem.

As you can see above, I have two networks and it is not connected to the internet on either of them. So one day I was getting really bored and annoyed with this problem so I decided to disable my Local Area Connection and then re-enable it.
I done this and the 'unidentified network' disappeared and left me with my usual.

Although this problem may be fixed, it still bugs me every time I boot up and was wondering if you guys have any idea? Since installing Windows 7 I have gotten a slower internet connection as well and though this may be linked.

Looking forward to your helpful comments.

EDIT:

Now it is losing connection randomly and showing only the 'unidentified network' which isn't connected to the internet. I have managed after lots of restarted of my Hub and disabling and enabling to get internet back.

Go into your bios to integrated peripherals or similar.

If there is something called "onboard lan device", leave that enabled.

If there is something called "onboard lan controller", disable that.

Boot back into Windows and see how it goes. Did this help at all?

If not, please post a screenshot of your network adapters in device manager, along with one of the command prompt when you copy and paste the following:

ipconfig /allcompartments /all

Eh, it all looks good from here.

If you aren't using Homegroup sharing function with any other Win 7 machines on your private network, it's a really good idea to disable IPv6.

It probably won't fix anything, but there are instances where it most definitely has.

To do so, go to the same place as your last screenshot. Click properties. Remove the check box for the IPv6 line. Click ok. Click close. Reboot.

Also, I would go to device manager as you have that in the screenshot. Right click on the top one of the two network adapters. Disable it.

same problem here

I tried that unchecking method for IPV6, didn't make a difference. I'm at my wits end with this. This should not be that difficult. I have a netgear Router, my wife's wireless, and my kids , both on XP pro - do not have any issue. This is something with Windows 7.

There's so many suggestions on the NET i'm not sure what to do.
I'm going to try the static IP address, as it's DHCP, but not working.

Windows 7 fault? No
Windows 7 fault in conjunction with certain adapters and/or routers? Perhaps

That would tell you that it is not Microsoft's fault, but rather the maker of your motherboard, added device or router.

Get on them and tell them to fix their broken drivers.

The vast majority of us have been running Win7 for up to a year now without the slightest networking issue, including myself. I do however, completely sympathize with those that can not say the same.

I must say, the network diagnostic tool on Vista was, in my opinion, better than the one in Windows 7. That seemed to sort out quite a lot of problems I've had in the past.

Guitardog247 - Please update me if you get anything.

I've got nothing yet. Everything is going very slow for my internet.
I might just switch back to Vista.

Highly unlikely, next to impossible. It sounds like a router misconfiguration to me.

Well my problem is gone now. I rebooted and shutdown several times last night. It always had the internet right away. No more of that yellow exclamation BS over the icon!!

What did I do? I did several things. One was a variation of this http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/32551-how-setup-local-area-connection-windows-7-a.html

But I don't really think this did it, well it was still failing after this. My settings were pretty much there already. And, I did not assign a static IP. I left it at DHCP. Oh but I did create a new workgroup. And changed the sharing settings in there. So you may want to take a look, if you haven't.

What really seemed to do the trick was there was an option next to the Home Network part there in Network and Sharing Center. It said "ready to create". So I created a "home group" or whatever. And finally the unidentified network went away. Then disabled - re-enabled the NIC.

And it's been working ever since. But we shall see.

blackt12, I don't know if your problem is the same as mine. As you don't have the "unidentified network", and you say you get some intermittent access? I would get nothing, if starting up the PC. I had to do a variation of disabling the NIC, and other BS.

But I'm happy now. Working on my EMU 0404 PCI issue now.

Also, unrelated, I got a BSOD when shutting down once. I NEVER got a BSOD in my Windows XP Pro install. Go figure.

I think I just about fixed mine.

My solution was rather... blatant, I just uninstalled my two adapters in Device Manager and then rebooted. My PC then installed the drivers by itself. After this I unplugged then plugged my router back in - It seems to be going rather well so far.

So your setup is different than mine, you have two network adapters.

But your solution soundslike the quick fix only. Does it connect from a computer shut down?

See if this helps:

Click Start -> Run and type in: cmd
A Dos window will launch -- inside that box, write in: netsh winsock reset

Hit enter and reboot.
