We have 2computers both joined to the homegroup and sharing does work but it has it's limitations.

Computer A can share to computer B just fine by click share > homegroup read/write.
Computer B can share to computer A only if specific people are set to "everyone"
Computer B can't share by simply clicking share > homegroup read/write. Even though we are clearly on the same homegroup.

Error cannot access you do not have right permissions comes up.

It's only a minor problem but it's an annoyance regardless. Any idea what's wrong?

The user accounts, and hence permissions are different on one machine. I would take the working one as the template and apply the same users, and permissions to the one that is half broken

another simple workaround might be to set up a new connection using "workgroup". Workgroup uses IPv4 and that seems to be more stable especially on older machines.

Permissions are set to everyone to enable sharing with "Everyone" this has always been the case. You can't share with specific people unless you create another User account on that machine. Thats how it is for everyone and it is by design.

Other than that, nearly every problem with Homegroups can be fixed by simply follwing this Homegroup walkthough in the link below.

For the permissions error message you should make sure that the Time/Date settings are in sync with your other machines.
