Solved Cannot Access Web Apps Behind Router

Hi,
I have W7 Ultimate sitting on a LAN with some other PCs.
I have published a WebApp for use with Terminal Services on one of these PCs
On the LAN I can enter the IP address of the PC with the Web Apps (192.168.x.x) and get a page in the browser with links to the Applications; click the link and the web app will start - Works surprisingly well!

In the router, I have forwarded port 3389 to the PC with the web app.
Then, connected to the internet ( but not to the LAN) I enter the external IP address of the router into a browser page but all I get is server at x.x.x.x is taking too long to respond
If I try IP addressort I get a different message "Connection reset while page was loading"

The win7 standard Remote Desktop Connection feature works fine.

So what have I missed out with the Web App?

If you on a LAN, why can't you just enter the LAN IP. I am only asking since it doesn't appear your giving enough info as to what and how your doing it. Are you on the LAN while accessing this or away from the LAN trying to access through a WAN? I am almost certain you don't have something enabled on the router like PnP or NAT or somethig and my head hurts too much tonight to try and guess.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to solve the problem and should have reported back in case others are interested.




It seems that Web Apps behind a router require extra ports to be forwarded on the Router.

• Port 80 needs to be forwarded for the initial display of the web page with the list of Web Apps
• Port 3389 needs to be forwarded because the process of starting a web app app seems to involve the Remote Desktop - though why a second log on (to the Remote Desktop) is required is a mystery and an irritation!
• Port 443 needs to be forwarded because the Remote App actually communicates via secure TCP

Once these three ports are opened everything works fine.
