cannot accociate extension .BOM with progran

I need to associate .BOM with OrCad. When I choose Associate a file type or protocol with a Program from Default Programs, I get a list of extensions and programs. However .bom does not appear in the list and OrCad does not either.
How do I do the association?

right-click on a .bom file, select "Open with"... "choose default program
..." browse to the Orcad executable.

...and don't forget to check the box at the bottom right that reads "Always use the selected program to open that kind of file"
