Solved Cannot Activate Windows 7 Pro

Pulling my hair out

After my hard drive failed, I have done a clean install of Windows 7 Pro that I got from Microsoft as a student. I have always always done the clean install when I had to do an install and never had an issue before.

This time when I try to activate I get this:



I clicked the top option and get this:



I entered my Product Code and clicked Next

After a bit I get:



Basically say I can't my Product Code with clean install. There is NO option for activation phone or any other method.

I resorted to doing a search for this problem and found this page.

I tried to use Method #2. I made the changes in the registry and closed it.
I then ran "CMD"



and got this message:



I don't have a clue how to elevated privileges for this process.

I did take ownership of everything in the windows folder but that did not help any at all.

I really don't want to have to install Windows again. This is the first time it has worked well in two weeks.

Please ... Please ... Does anyone have a way to fix this or another method I use to activate my windows?

Hello Huffman,

Be sure that you are opening an elevated command prompt while doing OPTION THREE in the tutorial below for the same thing. The command prompt that you opened in your screenshot is not elevated, so that is why you are getting that error message.

do you have the box and the genuine sticker with all the numbers on it?

I restored my HDD few weeks ago and had to reinstall everything and i couldnt activte my windows 7 pro, so i called up MS and told them all the infomation on my genuine sticker and the key i was trying to enter and the guy on the phone gave me a code to put in and it activated it perfectly

The Original Windows that Microsoft sent me came in a cardboard folder without a Product Code. It does have the Microsoft Sticker (no Product Code). I can scan that sticker if you feel it is necessary.

When I download Windows 7 Pro from Microsoft that is when I got Product Code I have always used. I have always done the clean install and have never had problem installing.

This time I did use the Command Prompt and got the same results; I don't have permission to run that and I don't know how to get permission.

I would really like to jerk a knot in Microsoft's butt.

Huffman,

You must right click on the command prompt shortcut, click on Run as administrator, then type in the command and press Enter at step 5. If you do not use Run as administrator, then that is why you do not have permission to run that command. That command can only be ran in an elevated (Run as administrator) command prompt.

Hey Noel,

I believe the current permission issue for now is just a matter of getting past using the command in OPTION THREE below in a elevated command prompt instead of just a normal command prompt. The error is the same as in OPTION THREE since it was a clean install from a upgrade copy.

Yeah - I'm familiar with the methods
I could have sworn thiugh, when I looked a huffman's CMD snip, it looked like an elevated one. Doesn't any more though.

If I right click on the Command Prompt and Run as Administrator is that NOT an elevated command prompt? That is what I did.

I also tried to do a upgrade which is Method 3 at
Clean Install Windows 7 with Upgrade Media

That is correct for an elevated command prompt. Does it have C:\Windows\system32 as the prompt path like below? Your first screenshot had your user profile path instead, so that was why I thought you were not opening an elevated command prompt.

Holy Christ I am activated . I called the Microsoft Activation Center on the number I posted before. They were extremely helpful.

I was able to activate by typing in slui 3 in the search box and followed the instructions.

It took about 30 minutes because I had a bad phone connection with them but otherwise it went great.

PLease post a FULL MGADiag report so we can confirm the results - your initial report was incomplete, and only showed that the system could not have been legally activated at the time, as the Key in use was the Default Key (which can never be activated).
