Cannot change (EBCDIC) codepage for Non-unicode programs

Hello,

Some weeks ago, I had to change system locale for non-unicode programs from Slovak to Russian, because of some problems with legacy software. Later, I have switched back to Slovak. I have rebooted and everything seemed to be fine, but ... I've noticed, that slovak/czech programs do not work properly and still using Russian codepage even if windows is showing that current locale for non-unicode program is set to Slovak.

Re-setting of this option did not work, so I've downloaded some diagnostic tools and it shows:
"User Locale"
Code Page = 1250 (ok)
Default OEM Code Page = 852 (ok)
Default EBCDIC Code Page = 20880 - This is suspicious, because this is Cyrillic (Russian) code page and I think that this can be a problem. On other computers is this set to 500 (full Latin-1-charset)

So my question is: how can I change EBCDIC code page in windows 7 (for example in registry)? Or how can I reset all these settings to windows default?

Thank you for an answer!!

Welcome to Seven Forums julob. Some options for you. If you have a system restore point from before you switched languages, this may be the easiest way.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

It's possible that running the System Files Checker will find and fix this:

Finally, if none of our language experts have any better suggestions, you can always do a Repair Install, which would no doubt correct this:

Hi there
another "Possible" solution is to (re-) install the Full Language packs for the relevant languages and then set system locale and display languages via the control panel.

Installing the Language packs should fix all the code page problems.

Can't help you on Registry tweaks etc.

I suspect that if you have the full languages and character sets available it should sort itself out -- otherwise System Restore I'm afraid.

Cheers

A Guy:
I can't use system restore, because several unsuccessful windows updates caused rewriting old restore points. System files checker (SFC) did not find any error

jimbo45:
I don't have any language pack installed. I am using English version of windows.

I'm gonna wait for other advice, hope there will be some registry guru:)

You probably would have tried this already if any of those "diagnostic tools" had the capability.

But, does any of them have a way to edit the EBCDIC code page?

If not, do they show where they found the information? Then you could go to that Key, and edit the entry yourself.

The closest I can come with my Home Premium is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\MS Code Page Translator,
but it does not show any sub-keys or settings like you harvested with your tools.

There is no capability to change it by diagnostic tool.

I have also tried using registry monitor, It sounds strange, but I found there all locale information except EBCDIC code page. I wrote to e-mail to the author of this utility, so I am waiting the answer.
