Excellent netbook. Only problem customising is that the power button and closing the lid are set to "Sleep", the advanced "Hibernate After" setting to Never, and they're all greyed out. Samsung have provided a power plan for screen dimming etc, but overriding it does not solve the problem so I guess it's not responsible. I suppose it could just be that Win7 Starter Edition lacks the facility, but I'd be surprised.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Self-Solved!

Just discovered Samsung's Fast Boot software, which is enabled by default. It claims to "enable" the system to enter sleep mode regardless of the power settings. What it actually does is force sleep mode by pinning all power-off options, except the standard ones on the Start menu. Disabling this piece of bloatware solved the problem.
