Cannot change theme.

Hi, I've had this (HP Pavilion d7) laptop for roughly 1 year, and it has been giving trouble for me trying to open some things from control panel and I can't change the theme it's been the really annoying Aero theme for a while. Can someone help me?

Yes, but I have not had this problem before. Should I just backup my hard drive and do a factory reset?

No, I would not go thru that extreme. Run a sfc /scannow in elevated command prompt. That might fix it.
