Cannot Complete C Drive Backup

I back up my Win 7 PC using Macrium Reflect. Problem is, since I started backing up my C drive to a NAS Raid drive (instead of another locally installed hard drive), I have been unable to complete a backup.

Checked the Macrium support forums and it appears that the error in backing up has nothing to do with the backup software and is rather a Windows issue. Issue seems to be that my VSS Service is shutting itself down due to it being "idle". As a result the Macrium cannot complete the backup. I determined the VSS Service was the issue by checking the Windows error log.

Any ideas how I can prevent this service from going into "idle" mode?

Click the start button, type in the search box services.msc click on that and give admin authority, scroll down to volume shadow copy, right click and select properties, change it to automatic. Hopefully that will solve your problem.

Here is Disk Mgmt:

I also checked Event ID 13 and all 3 services appear to be runing and have the proper settings. The only thing that did not work for me was the "Create Shadow" command via the command prompt. I kept getting a syntax error.

One final thing. Here is the formal error message from the Event Log:

Event ID is 8224

"The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout. "

WHS may come along with some specific comments on any NAS Raid drive issues with Macrium.

I also tried to download the Paragon Backup Advanced software just to see if it was indeed not attributable to Macrium. Paragon also was unable to complete the backup due to a VSS service error.

The other thing that may be the issue is that the NAS I am backing up to (Synolgy 211j) may not support Macrium.
