Hi Folks. I have a Windows 7 pc with an external 500Mb usb hard drive. As it is getting full I've added a 2Tb usb drive. When I try to copy/move files by drag and drop from the 500Mb to the 2Tb it just sits there analysing files and locks up explorer. I tried using FBackup and had the same problem.
Also, I cannot transfer files across the wireless network from an XP laptop, although that used to work.

Perhaps TeraCopy will help?

If not, you can use the Command Prompt xcopy command to do it.

Example:
500GB drive is E:
2TB drive is F:

Open an Elevated Command Prompt

Type xcopy e:\*.* f:\ /s/h/r/i/k/e/y and press Enter

This will copy every file and folder from the E: drive to the F: drive and ignore any errors.

Thanks Ztruker. Teracopy seems to have cured the copying across the network. It even appears to cope with a wireless dropout.
Just need to try the usb to usb now.

Unfortunately it hasn't cured the usb to usb copying problem.

It may be that your MOB can't handle USB 2 USB transfers at the same time.
Not sure how you are doing it but, try connecting one drive to the front USB ports (These will be conected to a USB header on the MOB) and the other drive to back USB ports (These are on a seperate controller).

If you are trying both drives on the front or back at the same time chances are that's your issue.

Hi Nigsy. Afraid I'd already thought of that. Tried it with both on front and back as well.

Can you copy from the external HD to you PC's HD?

I know it's a pain but may be the only way around it.

Would you believe, I hadn't thought of trying that. I'll give it a go and post back.

Well, before I got around to trying external to pc hard drive, the wireless network copying has broken again. I also can't copy from a laptop to the pc when using a wired lan connection. All machines can see each other and all shared folders are accessible whether wired or wireless through Windows explorer and UltraVNC works fine. It's just copying that seems to be the problem.
I'm beginning to think I have two separate problems. The network issue is beginning to sound like a router problem (Draytek Vigor 2820Vn). I'm also noticing a steady drop in wireless connection speed....starts at 54 Mbps and drops with time to as low as 11 Mbps.
The usb to usb I suspect is unconnected and maybe something to do with Windows 7 on the pc or maybe the new Seagate 2Tb drive.
It never rains but it pours.
