Hi all!

Had this problem with creating folders in some specific "areas".

First off, I got W7 RC Build 7100. My account is categorized as administrator and I have even enabled the built-in admin account. I tried logging on the admin account but could not create any folders in my "E:\Andras\Files and Programs". It kept saying that I need permission. Note that this is not C:\. The folder "Files and Programs" was created as a regular folder.

Now, I tried the .reg file in this site, the one named createfolderfix.reg or something like that. The message that came up after trying to merge it was that it didn't merge completely as some of of the files were damaged.

I also tried to give my own account Full Control in "Properties -> Security". But as I click Apply (or OK) it says "Denied" and shows the filename. I can click continue but it just shows the next file/folder.

The thing is, I am admin on my computer. I should be able to change anything and make any and every change I want to. Even the built-in admin account needed permission to create a new folder in that specified one. I'm seriously out of options. How can I make myself have Full Control?

Would be glad if there was an easy solution I've just overlooked.

Thanks for the fast reply. I tried your option but a cmd window pops up for an instant and it says:

"ERROR: Access denied."

I managed to take a screeshoot of it.
Imageshack - accessdenied

I bought the drive after installing W7 Ult. I formatted it while using this OS.

I am using "Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 Trial version" atm.

Being an admin does't give exactly all the control that you need, for example you can't easily delete the %windir% windows directory folder.

I had this problem when I installed windows 7 on another drive, now I have both windows 7 and XP, whenever I tried to grab files from my XP while I am logged into windows 7, I get the same message you are getting, and I fixed it by permitting the administrators group to take over the whole folder NOT THE SINGLE USER CONTROL.

Here is what you have to do:

  1. Unregister createfolderfix.reg.
  2. Restart and enter safe mode.
  3. Make sure that you have administrative permissions. if u cant just create another user and make it an admin too.
  4. Right-click the folder you want to have permission on and click properties, then click security tab, click administrators and make sure that the administrators group has full control over the file.
This should be helpful, it helped me

Thanks for the help guys.

I did as Alishanoon said but the group administrators already had full control. Although, in safe mode I managed to create a new folder. I moved the "Kaspersky stuff" to that folder and in regular mode I could create folders. So problem obviously lied with Kaspersky being installed there.

Well, that was a fault from my side. I installed Kaspersky to "Files and Programs" instead of "Files and Programs\Kaspersky". Didn't think I'd need to make a folder as most programs make their own. Gonna reinstall in a separate folder that I won't have to edit or anything.

Anyway thankful for the help!
