Cannot delete partition

Hello. I have a disk with 3 partitions:
1 - Windows 7
2 - DATA
3 - Linux Ubuntu

Recently I decided to delete Ubuntu once and for all. To do this, I followed this tutorial:

However I cannot pass step5. Once I click "yes" I get the most retarded and frustrating error message I've ever seen in all my life (and I've seen lots of them):
-"An unexpected error has occurred. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error. Close Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer."

I closed an opened the program - it didn't work.
I restarted the computer - it didn't work.
I checked the Event Log - Lot's of random information and garbage over all.

In order to fix the problem I spent the rest of the night searching for a solution, but my best friend Google has failed me, apparently no one has ever had this error before.... people usually get error codes or something similar to identify the errors ... but not me ... I guess I must be special ...

I've also decided to use diskpart and my good old friend - the command line. This is what I got:

Apparently, I want to delete a partition that Diskpart does NOT even recognize?? Why is this happening? Is it because the partition I want to eradicate is not in NTFS?
Do I need a 3rd-party program to delete it?

What do I need to do to fix this? Format the entire disk? (I am starting to consider that) ...

Hi FlamePhoenix and welcome to the Forum. Firstly, you are not going to have to format the whole drive.
There are plenty of people here who will help you delete the partition you are refering to. I am sure it will be quite easily done. As a help to them, could you post a fully expanded screen shot of your Disk Management screen.
Win 7, Control Panel, Admin Tools, Computer Mgmt., Disc Mgnt. You can use Win 7 Snipping Tool to capture this screen. Use the link below to learn the easyest way to post a screen shot.

I gotta say it... why doesn't everyone just download Partition Wizard Home Edition v5.2, install it under Win7, and use it... for everything hard drive and partition related?

Also, download and burn the ISO for Paritition Wizard's standalone boot CD, for those few special functions that must be completed outside of the booted OS (e.g. to manipulate the C partition in some significant way).

How many of these requests for help are tied directly to trying to use DISKMGMT or DISKPART to manipulate partitions, drive letters, etc.??? Every one of them it seems to me could be so much more simply, intuitively, and easily completed using Partition Wizard in the first place, and just never using DISKMGMT or DISKPART at all.

Yes... some/many/most basic operations can be accomplished with DISKMGMT or DISKPART, but not the total set of things that can be done with Partition Wizard. And certainly not with the ease and simplicity of Partition Wizard's equivalent functions.

Third party tools have extra fuctions usually.

However, Veritas were very careful with diskmgmt gui - almost impossible to mess up.

It also aligns to nt6 rules, and creates the correct disk and boot code.

The only 3rd party app. to also do that is Paragon ( new version 11 only )

LOL, this reminds me an even more stupid error message I once saw in the IBM MVT/370. The error message was:" This error should not occur". But that was 40 years ago.

Just a word of warning - although I also use Partition Wizard and think that especially the bootable CD is a nice tool, it is not without risk. Although I am quite familiar with PW, I once wiped out a whole drive - 4 partitions (probably my mistake). Therefore I now always image my partitions before I manipulate any of them.

Problem solved.

I agree entirely.

It's an excellent tool that I use regularly when fixing problems for friends and neighbours. It's free as well although it never hurts to make a donation if you're so inclined.
