I just have recently installed a fresh Windows 7 Pro. x64 on my laptop. I opened internet explorer, seeing that it's the only browser on a fresh install, and tried downloading the drivers for my laptop. It will bring up the download box, but it either, never downloads or gives me an error message saying "Cannot download "filename" for "server"." I can't even download another browser. Nothing. I'm not running any anti-virus, and my firewall is off. Any info on what's going on and how to fix it?

You say...
I'm not running any anti-virus, and my firewall is off.
Any info on what's going on and how to fix it?
Please clarify
* Why you are not running any AV???

* Why is your Firewall turned off??

* Have you ever been able to run IE successfully?

* What version of IE are you trying to use?

* FYI Some troubleshooting information for you to peruse.

I would be running an AV, but ie wont let me download a thing. It's a fresh install so nothing else was on the drive.
I had turned off firewall to see if that was the issue, and nothing worked.
I am currently using ie 8.

I just formatted the disk and trying another install to see if it will help.

...It's a fresh install so nothing else was on the drive...
If that's true it's unlikely there is anything wrong with IE or Windows. So I'd look into network settings and try to set up networking for whatever types of network adapters you have on the laptop (like Cellular, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet). If you have an Ethernet connection available, that would be the simplest to start with.
