Solved Cannot edit txt files using windows 7 context menu .. .

I get a:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action"
whenever i select Edit in windows 7's context menu .. . associating txt files
to my notepad "ted notepad" placed in system32 doesn't help .. .

& this editing option for txt files is used before loading a text file
in a program, in other words, needed .. .

Downloading and merging the txt option in the tutorial below will restore all the default associations for .txt files and should be able to fix this for you.

I still receive that warning, that txt patch doesn't work for "txt edition" from the win7 context menu .. .

Strange, it should have opened the .txt file in notepad when you right click on the .txt file and click on Edit. I created a REG file below that will replace the default "Edit" context menu with a custom one that should have it open in notepad after merging it.

i donno if you created the previous txt association but, your reg reference would be benefic if it was merged

You're most welcome Delicate.

The first REG file only contains the default registry entries for .txt files that I exported and put together. Normally that should work for most everyone.

After you posted it didn't work for you, I figured that you may have had something that changed the Edit function in some other unknown registry location. The 2nd REG file added the custom Edit option that would override whatever that may have caused the default Edit to not work. I'm happy to hear that it worked for you.
