Solved Cannot extend W7 C: Drive Partition

Hi All,

I am running a RHEL 6 laptop with a Windows 7 KVM virtual machine loaded.

I am needing to expand my virtual machine's hard drive space allocated, so I used the KVM's inbuilt function to allocate an additional 20GB. There was no errors when performing this task.

Then, I open up my virtual machine only to see that the additional 20GB had been allocated to the C drive, however I don't have access to it (as you can see in the screenshot below). Any ideas how I can resolve this?

You should be asking in a Linux forum for best support. I remember the same issue not long ago but we didn't have any resolution. Perhaps you should try: fixmbr or load defaults in virtual BIOS (if there is any such feature)

I see nothing to allocated. No room.

Yeah that is the problem. I have extended my drive but cannot find any disk space to allocate.

Ah, I found out a solution. Instead of increasing the volume using KVM, I decided to extend it using "qemu-img resize vmdisk.img +10G". That gave me some "Unallocated space" for which I could extend my C: Drive partition to, and in turn also free'd up the 20GB that was somehow lost (in the above picture).

Either way, it is resolved. Thanks for the help guys.
