Cannot find downloaded files... XD

Saved some files to folder I have in Program Files but when I go there, the files are not there.



But if I try to download something else to the folder, the files I have previously downloaded show up in the list of things in there. It's like they're invisible except that folder is set to show all hidden files. They don't show up in search results either.


Someone told me Windows 7 defaults to a download folder in your user profile in documents but I've searched there and found nothing.

I wasn't aware you could download to a system file . why would you download to programe files and not downloads or a different file of your choosing, not being critical just interested!

But in the end, I have managed to make those files 'appear' in the location I saved them and I can use them.

I decided to try downloading the files again and they were automatically going to go in the folder I last tried to save them in; the folder I keep in Program Files. As before, I could see that they were already there. This time I dragged them to Documents and them copied them back to the folder I downloaded them to and now I can see and use them. XD

Just to reinforce what was said earlier...you should not be creating directories or saving files anywhere under the "program files" structure. This area has special permissions and properties, and should not be altered by the user in any way. Windows 7 has a specific folder already created for a user to download files (C:\Users\username\Downloads).

I use firefox and have my download option set to alsways ask ( where to save to) mostly i put it on my desktop and then can quickly allocate it to the desired location, most used folders are on my objectdock with nice icons and saves less navigating around when saving to download location .

I paid for the OS, I paid for the computer and I cannot store the files where I want to. This is crazy world. I didn't give the right to organize my files to microsoft.

Don't be silly. You can store your files where you want.

It's a security precaution.
It's to try to prevent malware from automatically saving itself in certain directories.

You'd hate Linux then (even though it is free).
