Cannot get 7 to connect

I'm in a college dorm. I'm posting from my XP laptop. I use a Linksys usb adapter to connect to the internet. I've verified it still works on this computer, but it takes ages to connect on my computer with 7. I do not understand why, all I can think is that it is something to do with 7.
