Hi all,

Hope you can help with this annoying problem. I have read and tried everything on this forum.

My system uses static IP and DNS.

IP:192.168.99.240
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.99.1

DNS: 202.96.104.27 (ISP)
DNS2: 202.96.104.17 (ISP)

Here is the trick if I take my XP laptop plug the network wire in and load up a webpage, then unplug and plug the wire into the Win7 machine it works until next reboot.

Tried:
netsh reset....
Modified the Registry -
Tried Open DNS 8.8.8.8 etc.
No Anti-virus installed
Firewall both on and off

All return an error of cannot resolve DNS.

Please help I am stuck...

Sincerely
Stefan

May I ask why you are bothering with Static IP and DNS?

Is your assign IP outside the DHCP Pool of the router? Static IPs should always be outside that range of addresses.

Thanks for the reply Edward.

Little background:

This in not my network, but one of our partner factories. The computer in question actually runs an advanced analysis software for our production line. It is the only Win 7 box in the factory as it is what came with "package". Even with the DNS errors I can still view LAN computers. The administrator (if you call him that "useless") has setup the gateway to authorize internet access via IP addresses. So he manually assigns IPs to each box, then setup the gateway to allow this IP access. He told me there is no way to setup DHCP. This works fine with Win XP boxes, but not with this Win 7 box. This network is large and I have no say in its configuration, so I need to find a way to make this box work.

This Win 7 box works fine in my office where IP and DNS are assigned by DHCP router.

Any ideas
Stefan
