Solved Cannot get Windows 7 to see my network printer

It used to work okay. I installed a new release of Avira Antivirus and they must have changed how it works, because it is using the Windows Firewall.

The network printer does not show in the Add Printer screen and it cannot be reached by its ip address or name.

I checked the Windows Firewall settings and they seem correct.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Forgot to mention that I also change the security choice in my router per Verizon from WAP to WPA2.

Turn off the firewall and try it. If okay then it's a firewall setting.
Ditto for Avira.

With the firewall off the printer still does not show up.

You say you changed the security mode of router. Are you sure the printer is getting an IP? Maybe it is the printer that has a problem. Checked in router administration page, DHCP client list?

What I had to do is default the settings in the printer and then set it up again. So far it works. We shall see what happens when everything is shut down and started up again.

Yes it did and does now and an ip address.

Well it for some reason quit working. Computer thinks it is offline.

You could try pinging the printer IP (if it has ability to respond back).

Shouldn't happen but you could check if the printer IP has changed (or does it communicate with name?).

Try adding the printer name to the hosts file?

Bummer, the printer was on Automatic. We shall see how it goes.
