Hi, I am using Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, I have tried many methods to prevent thumbs from being cached and so far none of them have worked. I tried to get help over at techsupportforum.com a while back but they were unable to resolve the issue. Here are some steps I have taken so far:
1) First I tried using disk cleaner to remove thumbnails, but the thumbs.db files keep getting recreated in C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
2) I then tried using CC cleaner, and it still didn't work. I tried using CC cleaner with Explorer terminated via taskmanager, and it windows still persists in recreating thumbs.db
3) I used gpedit.msc and enabled the "turn off the caching of hidden thumbnails files" yet Windows still persists to make them.
4) I tried just straight up deleting the files out of explorer, but it gives me an error message saying "they are open in explorer and cannot be deleted."
5) The final solution was entering a registry edit to prevent caching. Amazingly, windows STILL creates a thumbnail cache, in spite of apparently not using that cache to load pictures faster, since the pics now take forever to load. Worst of both worlds.
Here is a link to the TSF thread in case anyone wants to know what has been tried. I completely reinstalled Windows 7.
