cannot install 32bit on a hp i3 pc

Hello, i had windows 7 professional 32bit installed on my pc. Then my pc started hanging a lot so i decided to do a fresh install and tried installing 32bit ultimate on it again but during installation i got error that installation cannot proceed and setup aborted. Then i tried installing 64bit and it installed without any errors. My question is why i cannot install 32bit on this pc since i earlier had 32bit windows 7 installed on it. Can anyone help me out?

Hi lakshi123, where did you get the win7x32 from?
Your installation wn7x32 install media may be corrupt.
Check the sha-256 hash against M$

All editions ( pro, home premium, etc ) can be made available from any windows 7 iso - either by removing the ei.cfg file from the sources folder, or by using
eicfg_removal_utility.zip

FYI: If you make ISO AIO all-in-one you will have access to all versions which come on the win7 DVD or ISO. You can install any that you wish, however, only the version of win7 that you have the 25-character product key for will activate.

Apart from has been said in the previous post which is probably the cause of your problem, it could also come from your bios setup, if you made any change from the bios lately (enable UEFI), that could also explain why the installation fails as in most cases, windows 7 cannot be installed on UEFI machines.

You are not correct as Windows 7 can be installed on UEFI systems. This Forum tutorial shows how.

yes for sure, i forgot to complete my point, sorry about that, what i forgot to say is that windows 7 cannot be installed with UEFI using 32bit architecture except in few cases but in most cases it is true

The reason why x86/x32 wasn't supported in Win7 is due to an incorrect market forecast. Initially, when UEFI 2.3.1 spec was worked on and brought to the desktop, 32bit OSes were thought to have been eliminated from the market. If you recall a long time ago, the rumors of Windows 8 were it would only come in a 64bit and 128bit versions and no 32bit. As such, the strategy was to eliminate it, and it started with UEFI support in Vista SP1 x64 but not 32. The same continued on with Windows 7 releases. However, it was obvious that 32bit was still very important and that no one would be buying a 128bit OS, so Windows 8 x86 was made to support UEFI.


Now down to technical things, it is the bootloader of Windows 7 that has the most problem. I have had limited problems with other interfaces, such as WMI returning garbage.


Using setup isn't going to work out because it may detect the firmware's capabilities and convert the disk to GPT. The key to have Win7 x86 boot on a UEFI board is to not use the System Reserved partition. This means you would have to run diskpart to format the disk, and then using DISM to apply the image.

NOTE: I have not attempted to deploy the OS on that particular hardware and BIOS version. It may still have issues or not able to boot.

are you sure about that ? cause it does't work for me, windows versions using x86 architecture don't even boot from USB drive on my machine (i tried with win8.1 and win10 without success)
As i said in my previous post, you can manage to install windows using x86 architecture on UEFI but it's very rare when that happens, it depends on the machine that you use but again, in most cases it does not work.

UEFI and legacy boot ( both enabled )=> usb drive does not boot
UEFI enabled only => same result.

Win7 On USB will not boot because the XHCI driver is not a part of the Win7 iso.
You can inject the driver and then put the iso to a usb and then it will boot.

Legal ISO's with OEM key are still downloadable from some commercial sites - for example, some sites about AUD$50 for Win7 Pro x64. Perhaps the remaining MS download sites will oblige if you have a verified Product Key.

This forum is absolutely excellent for tutorials, informative threads etc, but on the issue of downloadable Win7 ISO files there is quite a deal of misinformation.
