Cannot Install Driver for SD Card Reader in Samsung R519

Up until now I've never used the SD Card reader in my laptop, but now I want to use it however it's not showing up under My Computer. I have downloaded the 'MS Hotfix MemoryCard' listed under Software (which only appears for WinXP) here:
Support for NP-R519

But when I try to install (Running as Administrator), the command prompt flashes for a second then nothing happens. I've tried restarting anyway in case it had installed but my SD card is still not recognised. I've also tried running in compatibility mode with WinXP SP2 and Vista SP2 - no luck.

This card reader apparently is SDHC compatible, but my card is only 2GB anyway so its 100% compatible. I've done a google search and it seems a lot of people have problems with this one particular device/driver.

Also I've looked under Device Manager but I'm not sure where it would be listed, though I'm confident its actually not listed at all.

So what should I try next? I'd rather get it working than have to buy an adapter.

That MS Hotfix is NOT a driver for your memory card, it's a software patch for XP so it shouldn't apply to Win 7.

A memory card reader will be listed in Device Manager as a USB Host Controller. When a card is inserted into the reader, then the card will be listed as a disk drive in Device Manager.

Is the card you are using formatted? Does anything happen when you insert the card in the slot? You should hear the same sound when the card is inserted or ejected as you do when you connect/disconnect a USB device.

When viewing Device Manager, are there any devices listed showing the yellow exclamation sign indicating an issue?

Ah right.

Nope nothing happens when I put the card in, no sound or anything. I've even tried searching for it which does nothing. The card is formatted (I've used my camera to hook it up previously and move files to and from it), its definitely a software side problem.

Theres no yellow exclamation marks in device manager, here's a shot of the USB tab, not sure which one is the SD and like I said I'm not sure if its even listed as the laptop isn't picking it up at all.

One last thing I forgot to mention is this laptop was originally a Vista laptop, but because I bought as Win7 was released I got a free upgrade and hence had to download all the new drivers from that site, but of course the SD Card reader wasn't included or has some other problem.

Hi Aaron10, the card reader may be part of the chipset drivers Support for NP-R519 but normally they are made by Ricoh, Marvell etc, Looking on the Samsung website I could find no reference to the manufacturer of your card :( Will continue to search

Thanks, I've been searching myself and installing different drivers but no luck so far.

EDIT: Ok so some more searching I believe the SD reader is by ASUS.

In Device Manager, I clicked Action > Add Legacy Device and found two things:

Under SD host Adapters: Found something by 'Ricoh'
Under Memory technology driver: Found 'Realtek PCIE CardReader'

After adding both, they have the yellow triangle next to them with error code 31. I've searched on google and downloaded countless drivers for both manufacturers and it's still not working. Looks like I'm a tad closer to finding a solution now hopefully someone here may be more familiar with these.

Ok I'm getting close now. Using DriverMax I was able to install a bunch of driver updates, and since, there has been a new entry in Device Manager:

> IDE ATA/ADAPI controllers
>> Ricoh PCIE SD Bus Host Adapter

When double clicking on it, it says:

"No drivers are installed for this device.", but there's no yellow triangle like under the SD Host Adapters section, so I removed that. Now, here's what it says in Driver File Details:

Provider: REDC
File Version: 6.13.03.04
Copyright: Copyright c 2001-2010, Ricoh Company Ltd.,
Digital Signer: Not digitally signed

Under the details tab > Property > Driver Node Strong Name:

Code:
oem39.inf:Ricoh:R5U822_Inst:6.13.3.4:pci\ven_1180&dev_e822

There's more info if needed but hopefully there's just a simple option to get this working now.

OK instead of just installing drivers willy nilly hoping something will fix it, ain't gonna work.
If you post the make (yeh Samsung) model and all the other details I can look up the spec. for it and should be able to post you a link to the correct driver.

Sorry, missed that. Thanks.
I have searched all the places I can think of, there is no reference to the driver for the SD, it is right to say that it would be part of the chipset drivers. Looking through the installer .inf and .ini files, there is no reference in either set of drivers.

I suppose you have downloaded both driver packs. The ISMS zipped pack and the Chipset driver zip ?

Can you check if you can see the sd drive in My Computer in windows safe mode? I have a similar issue with the card reader on my dell monitor where can only see the drives in safe mode even though there are no issues in device manager:confused:

Nope (in neither Safe nor Safe+Networking). Closest I've got is using DriverMax which has made a Ricoh SD adapter appear in device manager, when I insert an SD card then search for hardware changes it comes up with the Windows is installing new devices, which then fails.
