I have tried numerous times to install IE10. I have researched this issue thoroughly & have found no answer, All other updates will install - no problem. All my drivers are up-to-date. I even resorted to the MS "Fixit" to no avail.

The event viewer reads:

I researched the error code & there are references to this code occurring with .Net Framework & SP1 updates, which had remedies I tried, but it doesn't solve the problem.

I usually can solve any of my PC issues on my own, but this one has me baffled.

BTW - I do not get an error code on the message box that says installation failed. It goes through the installation process, then reads "restarting programs" before getting the installation failed message.

I also tried installing with a clean boot - still no good. Also ran sfc /scannow.

I have no other issues with my PC other than this one! Please advise.

I have now attached the CBS.zip per posting instructions.

Also, the installation error code I get through Win Update is 9C59

Thanks. I apologize. I should know better!

I have edited my original post with the required info.

I also downloaded & ran SURT. Still no go.

I'm going to be out for most of the day - if Tom hasn't posted a fix for these, I'll check for the CheckSUR log when I get back in, and post a fix then.

Sorry - I ran the SURT after creating the CBS log. I didn't know it would be stored in the same folder.

I'm attaching an updated CBS log that will include the SUR logs.

Thanks much.

There was only one file in the Manifests folder after running Packs.zip & none in the Packages folder. I copied it to the folder you indicated.

I ran SURT again & sfc /scannow with the elevated command prompt.

I'm attaching the new CBS folder for your review.

Hello Tom,

If you haven't already, you might see if you may be able to install IE10 using the standalone .exe installer in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/282216-internet-explorer-10-install-uninstall-windows-7-a.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Thanks, Shawn.

I tried the standalone .exe several times before my initial post - no go.

This is really strange. I hope IE 10 is worth all this trouble!

I'll wait & see if Tom can figure this one out! The people in this forum are the best.

Hi Tom,

All of those errors are due to pure idiocy on my part, sorry about that! Let's try again:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a files should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Then run another SFC and post the CBS log please.

Tom

The CheckSUR is clear :)

As to cause....
file corruption? - yes.
The question is what was the cause of the file corruption?
All the affected files are from SP1 - either from the original disk or the SP install - so it's possible that the problem has been present from that time, if the install media weren't perfect, or a RAM problem existed at the time.

It's certainly worth attempting IE10 now - first do another manual Check for Updates to make sure that nothing else is detected.

Hi Tom,

No errors detected is always a nice thing to see!

I can't see anything of concern in your CBS log and your CheckSUR log is clean so in theory, the update should install now. But Windows Update can be a right pain sometimes so who knows! Try installing the update and let us know how you get on.

There was file corruption on your computer, which we fixed, but at this stage it is impossible to tell whether it caused your problem or not as we haven't tried updating. My money is on that being the cause though :)

Tom

Because I follow Noels and Toms work, it is very interesting. I do have a question.

Would doing a sfc /scannow before doing a SP-1 or I.E. 10 download and install help?

It's possibly a good idea before any SP install - but I wouldn't bother for a small update install (which is really what IE10 is, for all the hype)
